Examinations
Examinations are taken on a traditional supervised written basis. Examination sessions can be arranged by any school or club running courses. Each candidate will require a board and set at Level 2 and above. If you wish to arrange an examination session, please click here to download an order form for examination papers. Please post the completed form, together with your cheque, at least 2 weeks before the examination session, to IoC at the above address. At the same time, please email IoC at instituteofchess@btinternet.com to alert us to having posted your order form. The costs and durations of the examinations are as follows:
The examination fees listed are the ONLY costs involved in studying these courses and sitting the examinations (unless you would like to order past examination papers, in which case please click here to download an order form for past examination papers). IoC will send the pack of examination papers by post one week in advance together with guidelines to be followed by the supervising tutor.
Qualifications
After the examination, the completed papers should be posted back to IoC as soon as possible for marking. IoC aims to mark the papers at Level 1, 2 and 3 and post the individual pass certificates back within 2 weeks of receiving the answer papers. At Level 4 and 5, this period will be extended to one month. In cases where a candidate has not reached the pass mark, an individual advisory report identifying areas requiring further revision will be also be sent.
